Railway
The overall requirements for railway concrete are: high strength, good density, extremely high durability, freeze-thaw resistance, impermeability, and erosion resistance. Moreover, it must withstand long-term dynamic loading from the track, with standards that are more stringent than those for ordinary building construction or general highways.
Strength grades are generally high:For roadside auxiliary structures and small structures: approximately C30.For bridge piers and abutments, bridge girders, tunnel linings, and bearing pads: mostly C35–C50.Prestressed girders commonly use C50 or C55, and on some high-speed railways, strengths can reach C60.
Durability: Strict control of the water-to-binder ratio is required to ensure density, along with impermeability, freeze-thaw resistance, chloride ion resistance, and sulfate attack resistance.
Crack resistance and good volume stability: Cracking must be prevented to avoid affecting track smoothness and structural service life. Box girders, track slabs, and other components are often formulated with micro-expansion and anti-cracking agents.
Dynamic load adaptability and fatigue resistance: The concrete must withstand long-term, repeated vibrational loads from trains, with no voids or honeycombing permitted.
